Coldwater Equestrian Campground Blackwater River State Forest, FL

The Coldwater Equestrian Campground is located within the Coldwater Recreation Area, in the Blackwater River State Forest (Santa Rosa County), about 1-hour northeast of Pensacola, FL. This recreation area is bordered to the north by Coldwater Creek and has the following facilities: campsites with electricity and water (potable), dump station, restrooms, and showers, horse corrals and stalls, dog kennels, equestrian trails, dining pavilion available by reservation. Coldwater Recreation Area has been a prized recreation area for bird dog and fox hound field trial participants. The equestrian trails take horseback riders through some of the most scenic woodlands in Florida. Recreational opportunities featured here are: horseback riding, canoeing, swimming, picnicking, bird watching, nature study, wildlife viewing and photography.

Geography:

Blackwater River State Forest is the largest state forest in Florida, with over 210,000 acres of woodlands, lakes, and streams that has outstanding forest and water resources. It is named for the Blackwater River, which begins in neighboring Conecuh County, Alabama, and meanders southwestward through the forest. With the adjacent federal landholdings of Conecuh National Forest, to the north, and Eglin Air Force Base, to the south, this area is the largest contiguous ecological community of the longleaf pine - wiregrass ecosystem in the world. There are 56 campsites with electric hooks for RVs or tents, 60 barn stalls, 3 corrals for horses, 124 kennels for hunting dogs in field trial events and 58 covered paddocks.

There is a dining hall with a pavilion.

This facility has restrooms with showers.

There is a sandbar along the creek for campers and horse riders and 55 miles of horse trails.

Cancellations:

Cancellations can be made on the website and through the call center.

1 or more days prior to arrival: $9 non-refundable cancellation fee.

Day of or after arrival, must be cancelled through the call center.

$9.00 plus the 1st night's use fee.

After the arrival date, $9 non-refundable cancellation fee, fees for the nights following the call will be refunded. No same night refunds.

Refunds:

Credit Card refunds are automatically credited back to the original credit card and will take up to 3 - 5 business days to appear on the customer's statement.

The State Forest campgrounds cannot process refunds for reservations processed online or through the call center.

The State Forest can process refunds for cash or check payments made through walk-in office reservations and walk-up campsites. State Forest do not process any credit card refunds.

From I-10 take exit 22 for FL-281 N toward Milton/Gulf Breeze. Head North on FL-281 N (Avalon Blvd.) for 4 miles to US-90 E (Caroline St.) and turn Right. Go to Highway 87 (Stewart Street) at the Burger King restaurant and turn left. Go .8 miles to the Milton High School and turn right on Highway 191 (Munson Highway.) Continue 14 miles to the Coldwater Recreation Area sign. Turn left and follow the pavement 5.5 miles to the facility.

From the west on State Road 4, drive 2 miles past the 4 way stop at the Berrydale Intersection of State Road 87 and state Road 4. Turn right on Gordon Land Road. Travel 4.5 miles to the facility.
