The Florida Forest Service offers camping discounts for individuals age 65 and older, active-duty military or honorably discharged veterans, and for individuals 100% disabled at applicable camping facilities on Florida's State Forests. Overview
Description
Picayune Strand Horseshoe Primitive Campground is located within the Picayune Strand State Forest (Collier County), approximately 8 miles east of Naples, FL. There is no potable water or electric facilities available, but there is non-potable water available. There are also fire rings, picnic tables and portable restrooms available. Recreational activities featured here are: horseback riding, bike riding, picnicking, bird watching, wildlife viewing and hiking.
Geography:
Picayune Strand State Forest is the fourth largest state forest in Florida and is named after the largest of several cypress strands that once occupied much of the eastern portion of the property. The 74,125-acre forest is comprised of two tracts, the South Golden Gates Estates Tract to the east and the Belle Meade Tract to the west.
Picayune Strand State Forest is in the heart of the Big Cypress Basin. Most of this hydric forest is under water during the wet season. The forest is a mosaic of cypress strands, wet prairie and pine flatwoods in the lowlands and subtropical hardwood hammocks in the uplands. The northern section of the Belle Meade Tract contains many second-growth South Florida slash pine, with some remnant trees being over 100 years old!
Recreation:
The Picayune Strand State Forest, Belle Meade Tract provides equestrians with a 22-mile trail system that is included in the Trailtrotter Program.The Horseshoe Equestrian Group Camp adjacent to the forest office serves as the eastern trailhead for the trails. Please note that all horses on the forest must have current negative Coggins test results, proof of which is always to be carried by each rider. In addition, there are opportunities for hiking and off road biking.

Cancellations: - Cancellations can be made on the website and through the call center.
- 1 or more days prior to arrival: $9 non-refundable cancellation fee.
- Day of or after arrival, must be cancelled through the call center.
- $9.00 plus the 1st night's use fee.
- After the arrival date, $9 non-refundable cancellation fee, fees for the nights following the call will be refunded. No same night refunds.
Refunds:
- Credit Card refunds are automatically credited back to the original credit card and will take up to 3 - 5 business days to appear on the customer's statement.
- The State Forest campgrounds cannot process refunds for reservations processed online or through the call center.
- The State Forest can process refunds for cash or check payments made through walk-in office reservations and walk-up campsites. State Forest do not process any credit card refunds.
