Description

The Maple Set Campground is located within the Maple Set Recreation Area, in the John M. Bethea State Forest (Baker County), about 30 minutes north of Sanderson, FL. This campground is located next to the St. Mary's River and has the following facilities: campsites with no electricity or water, a communal pitcher pump (non-potable water), swimming area, a boardwalk and hiking trail. Recreational activities featured here are: fishing, hiking, hunting, swimming, canoeing, picnicking, bird watching, wildlife viewing and photography.

Geography:

John M. Bethea State Forest has over 37,000 acres of woodlands, 3 miles of river frontage, and establishes a continuous wildlife corridor between the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge and the Osceola National Forest. John M. Bethea State Forest is home to Florida black bears, river otters and bobcats. Bird species include hawks, wood storks, bald eagles, grasshopper sparrows and sandhill cranes. No potable water, no restrooms, no cell phone service, no electric hookups; no alcohol allowed; bring bug spray; wear safety orange on hiking trails during hunting season.
Only 1 vehicle is allowed to be parked at each campsite. A second vehicle would have to be parked at the trailhead just outside the gated entry to the campground.
