Description

The West Camp is located within Little Big Econ State Forest (Seminole County), about 40 miles east of Orlando, FL. The West Camp is hike in and hike out only and consists of five primitive campsites and one group site. There is no water, restrooms or electric at the campsites. All the campsites have a fire ring, lantern holder and picnic table. Recreational activities featured here are: hiking, canoeing, fishing, bird watching, wildlife viewing, wildflower viewing and nature study.

Geography:

The Little Big Econ State Forest's most notable feature is the narrow, winding Econlockhatchee River, which flows 17 miles through the forest and empties into the St. Johns River. The Econlockhatchee River is designated as an Outstanding Florida Waterway and is the second largest tributary to the St. Johns River The forest provides a crucial source of protection for wetlands and associated natural communities within the floodplains of the Econlockhatchee and St. Johns rivers. Other natural communities include wet prairie, pine flatwoods, sandhill and scrub. The forest supports a variety of wildlife, including deer, turkey, gray squirrel, alligator, Sherman's fox squirrel, gopher tortoise, bald eagle, roseate spoonbill, sandhill crane and wood stork.

Camp access is hike in and hike out only.
Campsites have a fire ring, lantern holder and picnic table.
Campsites have no drinking water, trash receptacles or restrooms.
Campsite # 1 the group site can accommodate a maximum of 20 people. The campsite can fit 10 tents size 5 feet by 7 feet or 7 tents size 6 feet by 7 feet.
Campsite # 2 can accommodate a maximum of 6 people. The campsite can fit 3 tents size 5 feet by 7 feet or 2 tents size 6 feet by 7 feet.
Campsite # 3 can accommodate a maximum of 6 people. The campsite can fit 3 tents size 5 feet by 7 feet or 2 tents size 6 feet by 7 feet.
Campsite # 4 can accommodate a maximum of 6 people. The campsite can fit 3 tents size 5 feet by 7 feet or 2 tents size 6 feet by 7 feet.
Campsite # 5 can accommodate a maximum of 6 people. The campsite can fit 3 tents size 5 feet by 7 feet or 2 tents size 6 feet by 7 feet.
Campsite # 6 can accommodate a maximum of 6 people. The campsite can fit 3 tents size 5 feet by 7 feet or 2 tents size 6 feet by 7 feet.
Alcohol is prohibited.
Pets are not recommended but if you do bring them they must stay on a leash.
Be aware of snakes, alligators and bears.
Campfires/Firewood
Fires are only permitted in existing steel fire rings.
For firewood, use dead and down wood only from the area where you plan to burn it.
Charcoal or a camp stove may be needed depending on the amount of available dead and down wood in the area to use.
Cutting standing trees (alive or dead) is not permitted.

Leave No Trace
Camping is restricted to designated sites.
Pack out all trash, including all food and food waste.
Pet waste must be picked up and removed from the campsite.
Respect wildlife and be considerate of other visitors.
