Description
The Sand Pond Group Camp is in Pine Log State Forest (Washington County), about 14 miles north of Panama City Beach, FL. This is a youth group camp (separate from the main Sand Pond Campground) with the following facilities: electric and water (potable), restrooms and showers (accessible in the main campground), two small picnic pavilions and fishing pier. Recreational activities featured here are: fishing, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, picnicking, swimming, bird watching, wildlife viewing and photography.
Geography:
Acquired in 1936, Pine Log State Forest was Florida's first state forest and is named for Pine Log Creek, which runs through the forest. This forest is approximately 7,000 acres and is comprised of various natural communities including sand hills, flatwoods, Cypress ponds and titi swamps, which are home to a diverse mixture of indigenous animal and plant species. Pine Log State Forest has campgrounds, day-use areas and recreational trails that offers many activities for the outdoor enthusiast, including camping, horseback riding, birding, wildlife viewing, photography, picnicking, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, fishing, and hunting. Please note that the trails are designated hiking only, hiking and biking only, and horseback riding only.
