Description
The Sand Pond Campground is in Pine Log State Forest (Washington County), about 14 miles north of Panama City Beach, FL. This campground has the following facilities: sites with electric and water (potable), restrooms and showers, pavilion, fishing pier and dump station. Recreational activities featured here are: fishing, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, picnicking, swimming, boating, bird watching, wildlife viewing and photography.
Geography:
Acquired in 1936, Pine Log State Forest was Florida's first state forest and is named for Pine Log Creek, which runs through the forest. This forest is approximately 7,000 acres and is comprised of various natural communities including sand hills, flatwoods, Cypress ponds and titi swamps, which are home to a diverse mixture of indigenous animal and plant species. Pine Log State Forest has campgrounds, day-use areas and recreational trails that offers many activities for the outdoor enthusiast, including camping, horseback riding, birding, wildlife viewing, photography, picnicking, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, fishing, and hunting.
